About VivariumHub

What this site is

VivariumHub is a one-species-per-page reptile & amphibian husbandry reference for keepers at every level. Each care guide covers the parameters that matter most — temperature, UVB/UVI, humidity, enclosure size, diet, and cohabitation — in one place, with an interactive UVB setup calculator and curated links to reputable suppliers.

The site covers lizards, geckos, snakes, turtles, and tortoises. Content is expanded as additional species are researched and verified.

How care data is sourced and verified

Every care profile is assembled from multiple published reptile-husbandry references — species-specific care sheets, peer-reviewed Ferguson Zone lighting research, and established keeper resources such as Reptifiles, the UV Tool, and species-specialist societies. Where sources agree, we report the consensus range. Where sources disagree on a value, we note the uncertainty and cite the range of opinions.

High-consequence fields — basking and ambient temperatures, UVB/UVI targets, diet composition, and cohabitation safety — are cross-checked against at least two authoritative sources before publication. Drafts are assisted by AI tools and then reviewed for accuracy against the source material. We correct errors when they are reported.

Care profiles are general guidance for healthy adult animals in captivity. Individual animals and subspecies vary. For any medical concern, consult a qualified reptile veterinarian.

Each species page lists its source URLs at the bottom of the care content. If you believe a value is incorrect, contact us — we take accuracy reports seriously.

UVB setup calculator — method and caveats

The UVB calculator on each species page works from three inputs: the species' published UVB need (high / moderate / low / none), the target Ferguson Zone UVI range drawn from the UV Tool and published Ferguson Zone data, and the keeper's enclosure height and basking platform height.

From those inputs it recommends a T5 HO tube percentage (5–6 %, 6 %, or 12–14 %), tube position (over mesh, ≈⅔ enclosure length), and an approximate basking platform height to place the animal's back at the recommended distance below the lamp.

Important caveats: UVB output varies significantly by fixture, reflector, and mesh type, and decreases as tubes age. The calculator gives a starting point — verify with a Solarmeter 6.5 at the basking spot and replace fluorescent tubes every 12 months regardless of visible light output.
